Zaid Jabri (Krakow, Poland) - Love and Mercy ( 2010 ) extract

Love and Mercy for Choir and Large Symphony Orchestra , poem by Bar Hebraeus .
Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra and Choir
Conductor : Michal Klauza
Love and Mercy ( 2010 ) extract by ZaidJabri

Franck Bedrossian - Edges (2010) for piano and percussion

Edges (2010) for piano and percussion by Franck Bedrossian

"After initial studies in orchestration, and analysis at the Regional Conservatory of Paris, Franck Bedrossian studied composition closely with Allain Gaussin. He continued his studies at the Paris Conservatory (seminars with Gerard Grisey and later Marco Stroppa), where upon graduation he received unanimously the first prize for Analysis, and the first prize in Composition. In 2002–2003 he was in the IRCAM 'cursus' for computer music and composition, taught by Philippe Leroux, Brian Ferneyhough, Tristan Murail, and Philippe Manoury. He also studied with Helmut Lachenmann at Centre Acanthes in 1999 and at the Ensemble Modern Academy in 2004.
His works have been played in Europe and recently in the USA by ensembles such as l' Itineraire, 2e2m, Ictus, Court-Circuit, Cairn, Ensemble Modern, Alternance, the Ensemble Intercontemporain, the Orchestre National de Lyon, the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, the Danel string quartet, the Diotima string quartet. His works have been performed at festivals such as Agora, Resonances, Manca, the RTE Living Music Festival, l’Itinéraire de nuit, Ars Musica, Nuova Consonanza, Le Printemps des Arts de Monte-Carlo,le Festival International d'Art Lyrique d'Aix-en-Provence, Fabbrica Europa, and Wien Modern. In 2001, he received a grant from the Meyer Foundation, and in 2004 won the Hervé-Dugardin prize of Sacem. In 2005 the Institut de France (Académie des Beaux-Arts) awarded him the "Prix Pierre Cardin" for music composition.
Franck Bedrossian has also received the young composer prize from Sacem in 2007. He was a Rome Prize Fellow at the Villa Medicis from April 2006 to April 2008. Gordon Delap - Pathless Desert (2011)

Pathless Desert by Gordon Delap

CaRe Greane - Integration (2011)

Integration (2011) by CaRe Greane

"Composition II Final, Spring 2011 Semester:

Integration deals with an organic growth of sounds; starting with whisps of air to percussive pops and smacks to finally a climax of bellowing tones and then regressment.

Performers: Sean McLellan - Alto Sax, Ryan Fellhauer - Horn in F, Caleb Rehmet - Bb Trumbet"

Kirsty Devaney - Guitar suite

Guitar Suite I - Elegy by kirstydevaney
Guitar Suite II - Trance by kirstydevaney
Guitar Suite - III Phenomena by kirstydevaney

"This Suite aims to experiment with different techniques of the guitar, but they are still very much pieces of music on their own.
Each movement focuses on different techniques;
I – Moving positions from sul pont to sul tasto and tremolo
II – Changing time signatures and tone
III – Prepared guitar and freedom of rhythm/pulse

First performed by Ben Mitchell"

"Kirsty Devaney b.1990, is studying composition at Birmingham Conservatoire under Ed Bennett and Howard Skempton and has had masterclasses with Louis andriessen and Jo Kondo. She has been arranging and composing for a number of years and has had commissions for both; including a composition which was performed at the Royal Holloway by Voices Anon in May 2010. Compositions have been performed by renowned performers such as the Chroma Ensemble, Rowland Sutherland, CoMA London and the Thallein Ensemble. She has won a number of competitions including the Conservatoire Orchestral Competition, Erica Becket Recorder Composition and came second place in the Philip Bates Award. Her arrangements have been sold via Sibeliusmusic.com and have been performed across the world.

Her interest in promoting new music and musical education has resulted in her setting up many concerts and events. She has conducted concerts and her own works for both orchestra and windband, and aims to continue developing as a composer-conductor."

controllar - trailer park

It's not our format, not a classical music, but so cool.

trailer park by controllar

"Controllar is an electronic duo gone Pop- gone experimental, then gone pop again. And it is oh so sexy. Years of walking on the tightrope spanning between Billie Holiday and David Bowie caused Controllar to put the puzzle together: from the combination of dramatic song and intricately woven electronic peel, all the way to the raw core of tube distortion and 50 hz saw-tooth synths. And it is OH so sexy."

Marc Yeats - siren song (2006)

siren song (2006) by Marc Yeats

Siren Song
Natalie Raybould, voices: Carla Rees, alto flutes

Dedicated to Natalie Raybould and Carla Rees

For three sopranos, three alto flutes, guitar, percussion and digital sound environment.

'Siren Song' enabled me to indulge my fascination for the siren, the mystical sea spirit, half human female, half sea creature that lures unsuspecting fisherman to their deaths by her seductive song. In this piece, I concentrate on the gentle, mystical aspect of the siren to paint a picture of her watery, ethereal nature, employing sounds that suggested seal cries and whale song as well as other nautical sounds all being part of her alluring aquatic nature. The music is evocative, gentle and hypnotic to the point where the three female voices and three alto flutes act as the one being, calling, enchanting and seducing. 'Siren Song' is assimilated from 'ASCII Dialogues', a piece for soprano and alto flute originally premiered by the artists on this recording.

Philemon Mukarno - Artrax

Artrax by Philemon Mukarno Composer

"Philemon Mukarno, composer, was born in Jakarta, Indonesia. He studied Audio Engineering, Composition and Composition Electronic Music in Royal Conservatory of The Hague and Codarts - University for the arts in the Netherlands. He finished Cum Laude and received the Prize for Composition.
Mukarno is a unique figure in Contemporary Music. The use of electronics is one of his trademarks. The compositions demonstrate in their own way his original ideas and his strife for intense expressiveness, in a musical language that does not refer to tradition. Each piece has a strong economy of Means and a strict control of Form. Means and Form are use by Mukarno in an elementary and powerful way.
His works are performed on International Music Festivals as: Gamelan Festival in Yogjakarta, Indonesia, El Segundo Festival International de Música Clásica Contemporánea in Lima, Peru, Rotterdam Music Biennial, the Netherlands, Internationale Studienwoche für Zeitgenössische Musik 2000 in Lunenburg, Germany and Internationaal Gamelan Festival Amsterdam (IGFA).
He cooperates frequently with artists from other disciplines such as choreographers, dancers, and performers. As well as music for theatre and motion pictures."

Castillo Trigueros - Nealíka

Nealíka by Castillo Trigueros

"Nealíka is a piece for four performers in four movements. The title is inspired by the visual folk art of the Huichol community, an indigenous people from Mexico. “Nealíka” is what they name their visual art. This art’s colorful, ornamental, and quasi-symmetrical nature inspired musical analogs in my piece.

The first movement is an energetic exploration of instrumental color where the resonances of the piano and percussion are emphasized and altered by the flute and violoncello. The second movement is in a three-part form; each section is comprised of identical written pitches and rhythms which are played with different articulations that produce immensely dissimilar sonic results. The third movement is the shortest and consists of the alternation between a quick and nervous texture and crystalline sustained tones. The fourth movement takes ornamental elements from the first movement and develops them into something new and final.

The piece was written in 2010 for eight blackbird which is playing in this recording."
